Privacy Policy

Faithful to America (faithfultoamerica.com) is a news and commentary website. This page explains what information we collect when you visit, why we collect it, who we share it with, and what choices you have. We wrote it in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, send us a note through our contact form and we will explain it.

Who we are

This website is operated by Faithful to America. Our contact form is the way to reach us about your privacy or to make a request about your information, and it is monitored. We are based in the United States and this site is intended for readers in the United States.

Information you give us

The main thing we ask for is your email address, and only if you choose to sign up for our newsletter. When you subscribe, we store your email address along with the date you signed up so we can send you news updates and so we have a record that you asked to hear from us.

If you write to us through our contact form, we receive whatever you type into it, which normally means your name, your email address, and your message. We keep that so we can reply and so we have a record of the conversation. Please only put in the form what you are comfortable sending us.

We do not ask you for your phone number, your mailing address, or any payment information. We do not sell products directly on this site, so we never see or store your card details.

Information we collect automatically

Like almost every website, our servers keep basic technical records of visits. That includes your IP address, your browser and device type, the pages you looked at, the site or link that sent you here, and the date and time of your visit. We use this to keep the site running, to spot abuse or attacks, and to understand which stories readers actually want to read. We may also log the IP address a contact form or newsletter signup came from, which helps us block spam and bots.

Cookies and analytics

We use Google Analytics to measure traffic. It sets cookies in your browser and uses them to tell repeat visits apart from new ones and to report things like how many people read a story, roughly what region they are in, and what device they used. These reports are about groups of readers, not about you personally, and we do not use Google Analytics to build a profile of you or to figure out your name.

Google processes this data as our analytics provider, and its own privacy terms apply to that processing. You can read how Google handles it at policies.google.com/privacy. If you would rather not be counted at all, you can install the Google Analytics opt out browser add on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or block cookies in your browser settings. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading anything on this site.

We may also use a small number of cookies that are needed for the site itself to work properly, for example to remember that you already dismissed a notice. Those cannot be turned off without breaking parts of the page.

Affiliate links and advertising

Some of our pages, including our Deals section, contain affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Once you click that link you are on another company website, and that company decides what it collects about you and what cookies it sets. Its privacy policy applies from that point on, not ours. We may also show advertising on this site. Ad partners commonly use cookies and similar technology to measure how ads perform and to limit how often you see the same ad. If we add an ad network that uses your browsing activity to personalize what you see, we will update this policy and name it here before we turn it on.

How we use your information

We use what we collect to send the newsletter you signed up for, to reply to messages you send us, to keep the site secure and working, to understand what our readers are interested in, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not use your information to make automated decisions about you.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not rent or trade our email list. We share information only in these situations. We share it with the companies that help us run the site, such as our web host, our database provider, our email delivery service, and our analytics provider, and only so they can perform that service for us. We share it when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid legal request. And we would share it if this website were ever sold or transferred to a new owner, in which case the new owner would have to honor this policy or tell you before anything changed.

How long we keep it

We keep your email address for as long as you stay subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we remove you from the sending list and keep only the minimum record needed to make sure we do not accidentally add you back. Contact form messages are kept while we handle them and for a reasonable period afterward. Server logs are kept for a limited period, usually a few months, and then deleted or overwritten. Analytics reports are kept according to the retention setting in our Google Analytics account.

How we protect it

The site runs over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and access to our database and email list is limited to people who need it. No website can promise perfect security, so we will not pretend otherwise, but we take reasonable steps to protect what we hold and we keep as little of it as we can.

Your choices and your rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. You can also ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Send the request through our contact form, tell us what you want, and we will handle it within the time the law allows, normally within 45 days. Please use the same email address you gave us so we can match your request to your record. We will not treat you differently or cut off your access to the site for making a request.

If you live in California, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and who we share it with, the right to have it deleted, the right to correct it, and the right to tell us not to sell or share it. We do not sell or share personal information for cross context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing for you to opt out of, but you can still send us the other requests above. If you live in Nevada, you can also tell us not to sell your covered information using the same form.

Readers in other states with similar privacy laws, and readers outside the United States, are welcome to send us the same kinds of requests and we will do our best to honor them.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a Do Not Track signal. There is still no agreed standard for how websites should answer it, so we do not respond to it at this time. The opt out options described above are available to everyone regardless of that setting.

Children

This site is meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

We link out to news sources, social media, and other websites. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for how they treat your information. Please read their policies before you share anything with them.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page when our practices change, for example if we add an advertising partner or a new tool. When we do, we will change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so clearly on the site or in the newsletter. Please check back now and then.
